WHOSE VOICE? YOURS!

Our Children's Ministries Director came out from behind the curtains at the conclusion of our annual Glow in the Dark drama, which, by the way, was an excellent presentation of the conversion and life of Paul. The house lights were still off, and all the congregation could see of her were white hands and a chain she was using for a prop. She had come to give a Gospel appeal to hearts to surrender to the Lord Jesus. She noted how there were folks there with various types of chains from addictions to depression fettering their hearts. She also noted that there were different voices that were speaking to them right then. There was the voice of God. There was the voice of the enemy. There were many voices. Then she began to plead, "Whose voice are you listening to? Whose voice are you listening to?" Suddenly from just behind me a young child yelled out, "Yours!" In spite of the seriousness of the moment a chuckle escaped me. Literally and physically, the child was correct. Then, I quickly noted that, although folks were hearing the director's voice, there was a voice behind her voice. God was speaking through her voice. All through the drama there had been recorded voices of singers and actors ranging from a three year old to an eighty-eighty year old. There was the performed voices of Paul, Barnabas, Silas, God, Jesus, many others, and even Boomer. (You'll have to ask a spectator about Boomer.) Together these voices told the Gospel story of Jesus. Yet, behind these voices were other voices, spiritual voices, voices only the soul could hear. It is true in all of life. Behind the voices of singers, angry protestors in the streets, the constant static of political talk, the online comments, the blogs, the news anchors and commentators, the characters in movies--on and on we could go--but, behind all these voices are other voices. Really, there are. The question begs to be answered: "Whose voice are you listening to?" We can choose. We can listen to the voice of the enemy of our soul or the voice of the Savior of our soul. The Bible says the Holy Spirit is speaking today, if one would just hear His voice. It is a great thing to hear the voice behind the voice and realize that it's God's asking, "Whose voice are you listening to" and to be able to answer, "Yours!"
